Beach at Dolphin Park

Anytime we come across a beach or tiny strip of sand, you know we have to do some exploring. This is the beach area at Dolphin Park. There were teeny, tiny little crabs running all around everywhere. We saw lots of little tiny fish that flung themselves from tide pool to tide pool and were very hard to catch. We explored for 20 minutes and then it was time to come home. I didn't want to overdo it. I'm so happy the kids were able to get some energy out. They had so much fun and were so happy to play outside!

Parker was so excited when this C-130 flew over.

I took the kids to Dolphin Park for Valentine's Day. It is a new park to us and where we will be having Cooper's birthday party. It was sunny, blue sky and 75. We all were pretty warm! The kids had fun running around, even if it was for just a little bit.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Yesterday I was diagnosed with bronchitis and kidney stones, a very lovely combo. I have been sick for almost 2 weeks. The kids all were sick but luckily they are all better. I had big plans for lots of fun Valentine activities and goodies. But, all I did was make a basic chocolate cake for dessert tonight. My mother-in-law sent me lots of cute Valentine sprinkles. Emma decorated the cake with them. She did a great job!

Josh is still gone so it has been a low key Valentine's Day. Although he did give me an amazing present before he left, DIAMOND EARRINGS!!! They are gorgeous and I was so surprised!!! Both Carson and Cooper had really fun Valentine's parties at school and came home with a ton of treats. After school I took them to the park to run around for a little bit. They have been stuck in the house for days and days because of me. They needed to run around!

The sun was shining today after school. The boys really wanted to play on the playground after school. Emma is still pretty out of it and doesn't have a ton of energy. She has a pretty bad cough too. I compromised and we went to the sea wall by our house. We have tried and tried to go there during low tide but we always miss it. Today we got lucky. We walked around and explored a little. It was nice to get out of the house, even if it was for a short amount of time.

29th: Carson started not feeling well
30th: Carson stayed home from school with a bad cough and fever
31st: Carson threw up all night, every 45 minutes, went to the doctor and got antibiotics for a lung infection
1st: Carson home, Cooper's cough got worse
2nd: Carson went back to school, Cooper's cough was pretty bad, Parker and I got the bad cold
3rd: Parker and I feel horrible, Josh left
4th: Lots of coughing by everyone but Emma
5th: Kids still pretty out of it, but Emma is still hanging on and staying healthy
6th: Emma woke up with a high fever, spent the day on the couch
7th: Emma felt a little better, just rested on the couch, my cough is horrible
8th: Emma woke up this morning throwing up

Are we ever going to be healthy again?????

Sunset at White Beach

Yesterday after the cherry blossom festival we came home and rested for a few hours. Later in the afternoon we took our new friends out to White Beach, one of our favorites for sea creature hunting and normally there is never anyone there. The tide was out so we found lots of crabs and so many pretty shells. The kids all had a great time exploring. We watched the sunset and then headed home. Everyone was pretty tired after 3 full days of exploring and playing.

50th Nago Cherry Blossom Festival

Today we headed up north to the first cherry blossom festival of the season. Okinawa is the first place in Japan to have the trees bloom. The trees just started blooming, so I'm hoping to go back up there in a week or two.We left early to beat the traffic and I'm so happy we did. The cherry blossoms are so beautiful!

The boys didn't have school. So yesterday we met our friends out at Zanpa Beach. The sprinkles stopped long enough for us to play on the beach for over an hour. The kids all had so much fun exploring and looking for sea creatures. Then we wet to their house for pizza.

Emma & Parker- 2 Peas in a Pod

Emma and Parker spent yesterday morning asking over and over, "When it is time to go?", "When do we get to see the girls?", "Is it time to go to the zoo?". They were just a little excited. Before we left the house to pick up the boys from school I snapped a few pictures. These two are truly two peas in a pod. They just love being silly together and doing everything together.

Yesterday was an early release day. The sun finally broke through the gray, cold, cloudiness. We meet up with the McMillan's, Diana, Hannah and Addy. We took them to the zoo and had a picnic. The zoo is pretty small so it doesn't take too long to go through. Their were beautiful flower displays all through the zoo. It was so pretty. Cooper really loved the purple flower elephant!

I had read a little about this Sunflower Festival. It is something new and not advertised as much as the other festivals around here. It only lasts for 2 weeks. The sun was still out after the zoo so we piled into the car and headed out in search of the fields, the kids and the McMillan girls. (Yes, we are friends with the McMillan family and the McMillian family). Trying to find places on this island can be very difficult because most things are in Japanese. Luckily, Diana and I both love to explore so if we make a few wrong turns, no big deal. All the kids had so much fun. They really loved running through the sunflower maze.

Cutting down the Sugar Cane

Today they cut down the sugar cane in the field by our house. It smelled so good outside. They make a special brown sugar here on the island. I don't know really why I took these pictures, but I thought they were pretty cool. Just sharing a little piece of our island experience.

Family Dinner Made by Chef Carson

Carson, aka Mr. Picky, only likes one type of chicken I make. He just loves Baked Panko Crusted Chicken Tenders. If I would let him, he would eat a bowl of panko bread crumbs and be happy. Tonight it was his turn to help make dinner. He breaded all the chicken. He was so excited to help. We had a very yummy family dinner- chicken, apples and our favorite naan bread, or as Carson calls it, CoCo's bread.

CoCo Ichibanya Curry House

CoCo's is one of our most favorite restaurants here in Okinawa. We haven't been to many places, but this is something we have once a month. Both Josh and I didn't think we would like curry. This curry is a Japanese curry and much different than Indian curry. It is DELICIOUS!! You can get your curry at different levels of spiciness, from mild to a level 10. Josh and I both get the chicken cutlet level 2. It is very spicy but oh so good!

On Sunday while the big kids were at AWANA's we took Parker to CoCo's for an early dinner. He was so excited. He clapped when his meal came out. We are so lucky he is a good eater and will try most things, especially when the other kids are not around to say gross. He loved everything on his plate and really loved his cookies he got at the end. He was so cute and had so much fun with us!

Week 3 Theme: I have a dream . . .

I love this picture of Joshua kissing Parker's little hand. I can't believe how big my last baby is getting. I wish he would just stop growing and stay this age forever. He is so silly. Parker and Daddy have the silliest relationship. They love to battle and wrestle. Daddy loves sneaking Parker special treats and "special juice" (gatorade). They are always being silly together. I love watching them. Please Parker, slow down, stay little for as long as possible!

Park Playdate #2

After school we met our new friends, the McMillan's and took them park exploring. First we went to our favorite rollerslide park. Then we headed over to Comprehensive Park. All the kids had so much searching for sea snails. They all got along so well. They are already great friends!! I think everyone enjoyed our almost 3 hour playdate. When we got home, poor Parker's legs. He was so tired.

A Perfect Spring Day . . . in January

Today was absolutely gorgeous! Blue sky, not a single cloud and 72 degrees. It has rained off and on the last 2 weeks. Today felt like a perfect spring day. Normally after school we come straight come and get homework done. But, on a day like this you just have to head straight to the park. One of our favorite parks is Comprehensive Park, which is really 5+ parks, a beach, sports fields, ponds, all in one. The tide was out a little so we headed down to the small strip of beach to look for creatures. We found so many sea snails. They were everywhere. Today was perfect!

Super Mario Bros Star Cookies

This weekend I made Super Mario Brothers Stars. I wanted to start out with an easy cookie design. These worked perfectly for our Date Night theme, Super Mario Wii fun. The cookies were so yummy. I still need to really practice my decorating skills, but I'm very proud with my first batch of cookies!

Saturday Outing in Naha

Yesterday we headed south to Naha. Josh is the sponsor for the new guy that got here this week. We decided to take him out and show him around. We went to Kokusai Street and to the Makishi Public Market. Cooper just loves going there. The weather was great. It was so nice walking around there in the winter compared to the sweltering summer. It was a great day out.

This month's photo excursion was the Makishi Public Market in Naha. This month we went as a family, but I was able to walk around a little and take some pictures. You never know what you will see at this market. The smells are always on the funky side but it is worth checking out.

Sunday, January 8th: Today the big kids had AWANA's. The boys worked really hard on their last 3 verses before earning their wings. Both boys were able to say all 3 and got their awards. They were so excited! Emma also said another verse and was excited about that. It was take a friend day. The boys took Cate and Emma took Meg. Parker enjoyed a special date with Mommy and Daddy.

Monday, January 9th: Today we dragged ourselves out of bed. No one was ready for the week to start. Why isn't the weekend 3 days?

Tuesday, January 10th: Today Emma and Parker played Barbies, the whole day. It was so nice to watch them get along for such a long period.

Wednesday, January 11th: Today I went to Cooper's IEP meeting at school. Josh went out to the airport and picked up the new guy, Max.

Thursday, January 12th: Today Emma, Parker, and I had coffee with Erica and the girls. We ran a few errands. The boys had a lot of homework to do.

Friday, January 13th: Today Josh was busy helping the new guy run around the base doing his in processing. After school we played on the playground for awhile, and they had a blast.

Saturday, January 14th: Today we took the new guy, Max around the island a little. We took him to the fish market and to walk around Kokusai Street. Josh and I treated ourselves to Coco's for dinner, Japanese curry. It is so yummy!

Parker's Date with Mommy & Daddy

Today Parker had his special kid date with Mommy and Daddy. While the big kids were at AWANA's we took Parker out for some fun. First we went to the park. He was SO excited to go play at the park. He just loves having all of our attention. He was so funny playing. He was pretending that dinosaurs were after him. We watched "Jurassic Park" the other day and he has talked about dinosaurs everyday since then. We played tag at the park and ran around for awhile. After that we went to the coffee shop in the BX. We told him he could have a cookie or his "favorite roll". He chose the roll, which really is a croissant. Parker had so much fun as you can see below in the pictures. He makes the silliest faces!

Weekly Family Journal: Week 1, January 1st-7th

Sunday, January 1st: Today after an exciting beach birthday party, we spent the day resting and just staying home. We watched some movies. The kids continued playing with their new toys. It was a great and relaxing way to start the new year.

Monday, January 2nd: Today was another day of relaxation. I don't think any of us were ready for school and work to start back up. We have had a wonderful 2 week break and it has been amazing. I organized the kids closets today. They have so many clothes but now they are organized and all folded in the right place. Of course we will see how long that lasts.

Tuesday, January 3rd: Today the boys went back to school and Josh went back to work. We spent the hour before school watching the Rose Bowl game, go Ducks! The boys and Josh were pretty bummed they couldn't watch the whole game. After school the boys were pretty tired and Carson wasn't feeling well.

Wednesday, January 4th: Today Carson woke up with a fever and bad cough. So the boys stayed home from school. It was a rainy, dark day. We watched movies, including all 3 Jurassic Park movies which they all loved.

Thursday, January 5th: Today Carson stayed home from school again but Cooper went. Carson layed on the couch and rested all day. Emma and Parker spent the day painting, painting, and more painting.

Friday, January 6th: Today Carson went back to school, even though he still had a bad cough. The kids were so excited after school, no homework! All 4 love when there is no homework.

Saturday, January 7th: Today we relaxed and hung out at home. Josh worked on our yearly video. The boys played Legos. Emma and Parker played Barbies. The kids got all their blankets out and watched a movie before bed. We are still trying to get back into a routine and trying to get this stupid cold that has been in this house for almost 3 weeks.

Project 52: Week 1

Week 1 Theme: Resolutions

This year I hope to get back into couponing. My goal is to cut our grocery bill in anyway possible. Everything is so expensive here in Okinawa. Luckily, I can use coupons 6 months past their expiration date. A wonderful woman back in the States sent me this 15lb box of expired coupons. I have never seen so many coupons in one place. They were all clipped and stacked nicely. It took me, along with some help of Carson, all day Saturday to go through them. I now have a huge stack of coupons to get started. I also have 100's of coupons to pass on to other families here on the island.

Focus 52: Week 1

This is my first time doing this project. I love the idea of 52 weeks instead of 365 days. I also love that Focus 52 suggests a theme each week and projects can be anything- photography, cooking, scrapbooking.... just as long as you get something done each week.

Week 1 Theme: New
I love this picture I took of Parker. He lined up all his new Cars and watched Cars 2 with them. I love this picture but it wasn't very clear or sharp. I decided to try some new actions on the photo, something that is new to me. I used these ones from The Pioneer Woman. Once I figured out how to install them I was ready to go. The actions were so easy to use. I can't decide which was my favorite.

It felt great to start scrapbooking again this week after a month long break. I just keep getting further and further behind. This year I hope to get a few pages done each week. I also want to participate in more online scrapbook challenges and sketches.

You & Me Together: I just love the Echo Park Country Drive collection. This page is based on a sketch from The Green Frog Studio and the first Sketch Wednesday of the year. 2012: 12 Projects, 12 Times

1. Date Night: Josh and I will be celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary this year. We only get to go out for date night 2 maybe 3 times a year. Just because we can't go out somewhere for date night doesn't mean we can't have fun at home. Once a month we will have a special date night at home. This means no facebook, google reader, or pinterest. I have some good ideas, including some from the blog Simply Modern Mom.

2. Explore Okinawa: We want to really take advantage of our time here in Okinawa. We will exploring somewhere new once a month.

3. Special Crafts: The kids and I will continue our crafting fun with a special craft project each month in addition to our regular crafting time.

4. Family Movie Night: As a family we love to watch movies together. Each month we will have a special movie night with yummy treats and popcorn.

5. Decorated Sugar Cookies: This a something new for me. I love looking at professionally decorated cookies. I am a beginner but hope to improve my decorating skills throughout the year. My pinterest cookie board can be seen HERE, lots of inspiration.

6. Family Dinner: This will be a special dinner we all help make together. Sundays are normally our big family dinner nights and that won't change. This will be an even more special time as we cook a new recipe together.

7. Family Picture: It is hard to get a picture of all 6 of us together. Hopefully this will keep me accountable and help remind me to get all of us in the photo.

8. Self Portrait: As many have commented before and noticed, I am not regularly in pictures. I hate having my picture taken. Hopefully as I continue to lose weight I will be more confident in front of the camera.

9. Letter Writing: Josh and I wrote letters every day when he was in basic training, over 10 years ago. Letter writing is something that rarely is done in this age of email and text messages. Once a month we will all work together to write letters to friends and family back home.

10. Kid Dates: It is not very often that Josh or I am able to just take one kid out for a special date, even if its just running errands or going to the BX. This year we will work hard to make sure Carson, Cooper, Emma, and Parker each get some special alone time with one of us.

11. Just Desserts: There are so many yummy dessert recipes I want to make. Even though we are trying to watch what we eat, every once in awhile you just need something sweet.

12. Photo Excursion: I am so happy I got my new camera for Christmas. I have loved the pictures I have taken so far . . . on auto. I have so much learn. I am hoping once a month I can go out by myself and practice using my camera.

Clothespin Chore Charts

With the kids getting older and Josh and I being a little slack on the chore duties, it is time to change things around here. I knew the kids needed something visual for their chore lists. On pinterest I saw a chore chart using clothespins. I thought this was a great idea. I wrote each chore/to do on a clothespin. The kids, especially the boys have asked about an allowance. We decided that would be a good idea for them to start learning about saving money. However, we will only pay for 3 things on their list. The chores/to do that need to be done everyday and will not be paid for are: brush teeth in the morning, make bed & pick up babies (stuffed animals, which they are have special ones that go on the bed), put dirty clothes in the laundry, do homework with complaining, for Emma and Parker they will have a special writing or drawing project to do during homework time, read for 20 minutes, practice their AWANA bible verse, brush teeth before bed and say their prayers. We will be paying $0.25 each day for 3 things: chore #1 which consists of cleaning 2 things in your room, chore #2 is helping with something in the rest of the house- clearing table after dinner, helping with dishes, cleaning the white table, and picking up extra toys, and finally we are starting buddy time which they can earn a quarter as well. The boys all get along really well but sometimes Emma gets left out. We want them all to get along with each other and be nicer to each other. Monday thru Thursday they will take turns spending 20 minutes together, away from the other kids doing something fun. We are really hoping this works. The final clip on their list is Saturday clean-up. They will get $0.50 for helping with whatever we ask, cleaning the playroom, cleaning under their beds, etc. If they do all their chores the entire week, on Saturday they will earn $4.00. They will be allowed to spend $1.00 but the rest will be saved for our trip back to the States this summer.

When they have completed that task they can move the clothespin to the other side. This way they can look at their list and see what they still need to do. The boys are really excited about this whole plan. They had the first 3 things done on their lists before I got up this morning.

To address bad behavior I made up some clothespins with not so fun chores, a few funny things, such as rub Dad's head for 10 minutes, a few free passes, and some writing practice. The kids will get 1 warning. After that they have to close their eyes and pick a clothespin. They will have to do what it says before bed. The boys read through them this morning before school. They kept laughing and saying I want to do this one, oh I would hate to do this one, oh no, no way I will do this. Since time outs do not work very well around here, I'm really helping this helps stop some of the bad things happening in this house.

I love making lists. I get more done if I have a list. I really get a lot done if I post my list on this blog. I'm hoping a monthly list will help me stay on top of things and get more accomplished.

- Recap: Did a majority of the things on my list. Wasn't able to complete all 12 projects but had a lot of fun completing 8/12. Edited 100's of pictures and ordered prints. I'm pretty proud of how much I accomplished.

2011 Year in Review- January to June

January: Playing outside, watching AJ, lots of jumping on the bed, watching the Ducks play in the Rose Bowl, last minute decision to apply for an assignment in Okinawa, Japan, lots of Wii playing

February: Parker started speech therapy, huge family trip to Disneyland (16 of us in all), Cooper turned 6 with a Pirate Party, fan appreciation day at the Giants stadium, found out we got the assignment to Okinawa, Japan

March: whirlwind of paperwork, doctor appointments, dentist appointments and scheduling, Carson and Cooper started baseball, T-ball for Cooper and machine pitched for Carson, Carson and Cooper both got awards at school

April: Josh went to Florida for training before the big move, the kids and I went up to Portland for Spring Break, we had so much fun at Grandma & Grandpa's house, fishing, trip to the zoo, lots of Easter fun, and visiting the tulip fields, Back to school night for the boys, 2 baseball per boy each week plus practice

May: Josh came back from Florida and we surprised him at the airport with signs, lots of pool time, more baseball games, my friend Erin visited us, my Mom visited and we went to Napa for the first time and it was amazing, last trip to San Francisco, the house was packed up and the boys worked on finishing up school

June: Cooper graduated from kindergarten, Carson finished 1st grade, we had a big going away party with our friends, we spent 2 weeks in Portland spending time with family before the move, Josh and I went on our first trip alone to Vegas and it was fantastic, headed up to Seattle and flew across the Pacific ocean to Okinawa, Japan- 16 hours of traveling, lived in TLF for almost 2 weeks

2011 Year in Review- July to December

July: we moved into our new house off base, we set up the house and started to explore the new country we are living in, numerous trips to many different beaches, explored castle ruins, the aquarium and Japanese navy ships, lots of searching for crabs and lots of swimming practice, one typhoon and one earthquake, Emma turned 5 with a Hello Kitty birthday

August: Josh went on his first TDY, the kids and I continued to explore Okinawa with adventures to Naha, the fish market, Okinawa World, and the water park, Parker turned 3 with a Toy Story party, Carson started 2nd grade and Cooper started 1st grade

September: Emma, Parker and I had special days at the beach while the boys were in school, Josh went on his second TDY, we went to the zoo, played at the beach and searched for crabs, stayed busy playing in the bathtub on rainy days

October: we explored a lot more since the weather cooled down some, boys kept very busy with lots of homework, I turned 30 and we celebrated at a flower garden, lots of pineapple eating, lots of painting, had our first Halloween in Okinawa and trick-or-treated on base

November: Josh went on his 3rd TDY and missed his 29th birthday, the boys had a lot of school off, all 4 kids got really sick while Josh was gone, it was horrible, we had a large earthquake and it was crazy, Josh got home in time for Thanksgiving

December: Josh went on his 4th TDY, kids and I kept busy everyday with our fun 25 days of Christmas countdown, lots of present wrapping, played at the park and beach a lot, had an amazing Christmas, Carson turned 8 with a birthday on the beach

Carson's 8th Birthday at the Beach

Luckily, the rain held out and we were able to have Carson's birthday party at Araha Beach, or as the kids call it, Pirate Beach. We invited the McMillian and Guilmain families. The kids had so much fun playing in the sand and on the playground. They played for 2 1/2 hours. Carson said this wasn't the best birthday ever, but it was the "greatest birthday in the whole world, the bestest!" I'm so happy he had such a fun time. All the kids were so happy and just loved every minute of it.

Today Carson turned 8 years old. How in the world is he already 8???? Time goes by so fast. I just can't believe 8 years ago I was having my first c-section. Joshua and I were so excited to meet our first little man. Carson is becoming an amazing little boy. He is so smart and funny. He loves adventure and he loves to learn. This morning he woke up to his torn all decorated. He thought that was pretty cool. He requested french toast for breakfast and he ate 6 whole pieces. For lunch he wanted to eat at the BX. So we went there, had lunch, went upstairs and let him pick out a new Lego, picked up his balloons and then headed to his party at the beach.

After his party we stopped and picked up pizza. We came home and ate. The house was decorated in a Star Wars theme. He opened his presents and was so excited with everything he got. He loved his new jeans and shirts and really loved his new Oregon sweatshirt. Carson was very excited of course for new Lego's also. He said that this was the best birthday ever!

A Gorgeous Day at White Beach

Today was a beautiful, sunny, and blue sky day. We headed out to White Beach mid morning to go for a walk on the beach and look for shells and crabs. The water was up really high but we all had a lot of fun combing the beach. Josh found a huge dead fish with really big teeth. Cooper played with a big dead crab and was so excited about it. Emma filled her bucket with shells and sea glass. Parker found the best and biggest shell. Carson played along the shore, jumping in the waves. After walking on the beach for awhile the kids played on the playground. Nothing better than playing on the playground, on the beach, in shorts at the end of December.

Josh's Running Accident

As Josh walked in the door the first thing I heard was, "Shannon, be prepared, I think I shattered my knee cap." I walked around the corner and saw the blood running down his knee. Josh was running and tripped and fell. A Japanese woman finally stopped and drove him home. I felt so bad for him. The kids were so freaked out by all the blood. It ended up being a really bad scrape with a few deeper cuts. It could have been so much worse.

Gifts from our Japanese Neighbors

We were so surprised when the doorbell rang last night. We were not expecting anyone. Our Japanese neighbors/owners that live downstairs brought us a special Christmas cake and presents for each of the kids. We were so surprised. I wish we knew more Japanese to thank them better. That was so thoughtful and kind of them. The kids each got a special case filled with Japanese snacks and goodies. What a great ending to an amazing 1st Christmas in Okinawa!

Time to Play with New Toys

After opening presents, the actual opening of the toys began. Mom, can you open this? Dad, can you open this? Can I build this now? The kids were occupied all day long. The boys built Lego's all day. Emma played Barbies and Parker played with his Batman guys and Thomas trains. They stayed in pj's all day. They all had so much fun!

And now of course, we have a giant recycle pile and it continues to grow as more things are opened.

After breakfast we started opening presents. We took a few breaks but it took about 3 hours to get everything opened. Grandma and Grandpa watched the kids open their presents from them via Facetime. Thank goodness for technology. It was like they were here with us! The kids opened presents from us, from Grandma Michele, Aunt Nikki & Uncle Caleb and Great Grandma Yiayia. The kids did a gift exchange with each other. They were so happy and excited to give each other their presents they picked out. They all were so excited to open each and every present. They all watched each other open. We all had so much fun. The kids were so surprised by most of the presents. They were filled with joy and excitement!!

Stockings and Santa's Presents

Carson was up at 5 and ready to get everyone else up. I told him he had to wait a little longer. Emma and Parker have bad colds and they needed a little more sleep. Eventually all 3 boys were up in our room begging to get Emma up. At 6 we said ok. The first thing Parker told everyone was, "Guess what guys, I saw Santa last night. I slept on the couch and I saw him eat the cookies." He was so excited to tell us and he truly believes he saw Santa. Those are the memories that make Christmas so special.

They all grabbed their blankets and babies and headed out to the living room. First they had to check and see how much Santa ate. Oh my, Santa was hungry. He ate almost all the cookies. I bet Santa had a tummy ache last night (he did). Then we they ran over to see what Santa had left them. They were so excited. We opened stockings youngest to oldest.

Parker got cars squinkies, socks, paints, hot wheels, snowmobile Batman, a new stuffed Nelson dog and some candy. Emma got bracelets, socks, hello kitty mini figs, a movie, a new hello kitty baby, candy, and paints. Cooper got a new hammerhead shark, 2 mini lego sets, 8 lego mini figs, socks, paints, and candy. Carson got a new giraffe with purple feet, 2 mini lego sets, 8 lego mini figs, socks, candy, and paints.

After stockings they opened the presents from Santa. They were so excited that they wouldn't hold still, so the pictures were blurry. Parker got a new treasure island thomas train set, Emma got the Barbie vacation house, Cooper got the Lego fishing boat he has wanted forever, and Carson got the Toys R Us Lego truck. They were so excited with their presents. They started playing while we made breakfast.

Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve we all got dressed up. We had no place to go, but you have to get dressed up sometime during Christmas. I attempted to get pictures of the kids, but they were all just too excited for Christmas to stand still. We ran a few last minute errands. Josh stayed home with the kids while I got a few things.

Normally we would have gone to church today. We have really missed our old church back in California, Bayside. This year they chose a few of their 17 Christmas Eve services to stream live. The 9pm service was perfect for us to watch in the afternoon. Josh wrote on the chat page of the service that we were watching in Okinawa. When Pastor Ray came out he mentioned our family and that we were watching in Okinawa. He thanked us Josh for his service and the whole church wished us a Merry Christmas. We all thought that was so special. It really made our Christmas Eve amazing. The kids really liked that also. They too really miss our old church.

After watching the church service the kids started tracking Santa. They were so excited Okinawa was one of the first places Santa stops. The kids got their new Christmas pj's. Then they got to open their Christmas Eve present, new ornaments. They made Santa a huge plate of cookies along with some milk and carrots for the reindeer. We read "The Night Before Christmas." and then they hopped into bed. All 4 were so excited!!!

We stopped by Comprehensive Park again today. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful park less than 5 minutes from us. The park is huge! This time we played at a different playground. This playground was perfect for Parker. They all had fun and got a lot of their energy out. I really wanted to get some pictures up on the hill. But it started to rain before everyone got to the top. The kids were worn out after running around. Lots of fun!

Christmas Countdown: Day 23

Excitement filled the house today because it was the Eve of Christmas Eve. The kids are so incredibly excited for Christmas. After hanging out this morning, we went and had lunch at the BX, checked the mail, and the kids got the rest of their gift exchange presents. Yes, they talked us into buying a present for each of their siblings instead of just one. We came home and they helped wrap the presents they were giving. The tree is really filling up! After that we went to the park and played. I really wanted a picture of everyone up on the hill, but it started to rain before everyone could get up there. Still, the park was fun.

After dinner we watched the new Prep & Landing short video. The kids loved it, but wish it was a lot longer. We had bought some new ornaments last month, and we forgot to put them up on the tree. So the kids hung them tonight. For treat we had sugar cookies.

Finally, tonight's book was, "The Night Before the Night Before Christmas." In true Cooper's fashion he chose to pose this way tonight. Another fun-filled day and tomorrow is Christmas Eve!

Carson Lost Another Tooth

In the car on the way to bowling yesterday Carson lost his first front tooth! He dropped it and thought he had lost it in the car, but Josh found it. He looks so funny with that huge open space. His other front tooth is loose also. He could be wishing for his two front teeth this Christmas!

Today was a fun filled day. This morning we went over to Erica's house to decorate cookies with the girls. Erica baked so many cookies and had everything organized and ready to go when we got there. The kids had so much fun decorating cookies. They all turned out so cute!

After cookie decorating we ate lunch at the BX. Then we headed home to pick up a little. The kids were bored and it was raining so we hopped in the car and went back on base to bowl. The kids love bowling. We bowled 2 games. It was a lot of fun. We came home and had dinner. The kids played candy cane fishing, which they thought was a lot of fun. Then we watched "Elf" and read our book, "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer." For treat they 2 had cookies from today, and the other 2 had leftover Elf cupcakes.

Christmas Countdown: Day 21

Today was going well until Carson started not feeling well. The other kids have had colds, but today Carson got a fever, took a nap, woke up and got sick. No fun. I had to switch Day 20 and 21 around. Poor guy. We watched, "The Polar Express." Everyone but Carson had special Christmas hot cocoa. I had really hoped for a great Polar Express day, but the kids didn't mind. They just felt really bad for Carson. Our book was, "The Polar Express."

American Village Christmas

American Village (a shopping and eating area) had a little Christmas festival. There were several different performances, lots of dancing, and Christmas songs. The whole place was decorated with thousands of Christmas lights and tons of Santa statues. It was a nice way to spend the evening.

Elf Cupcakes

These Elf cupcakes took some time to make, but they turned out to be so cute.

To make the hats, use graham crackers, white candy melts and pretzels.

I used starbust and soft jolly ranchers for the facial features and hat rim.

After the candy melts harden, I decorated the hats with green

frosting, sprinkles, white chocolate chips and the candy rim.

I decorated the Elf faces with the shaped candy.

The eyes are white candy melts and mini chocolate chips.

Finally, I inserted the hats in the cupcakes.

Not perfect, but oh so cute!

Christmas Countdown: Day 20

Day 20 actually occurred today. We had to switch day 20 and 21 because Carson was sick. Today the kids were so excited for their special activity- play doh. All moms will agree that play doh is the messiest product in the world. All kids will agree that play doh is one of the best things to play with. Normally play doh is something we only do at Grandma & Grandpa's house. Since we won't be back to the states until summer to visit they were nice enough to send some over the ocean to us. The kids played for over an hour. They just love play doh.

Today we watched the movie, "Elf." It is such a family favorite! To go with the movie I made Elf Cupcakes. I saw the idea in one of my cupcake books. I think they turned out so cute!

The kids all have bad colds with snotty noses and coughs. But they had a lot of energy. After being in the house all afternoon we had to get out. We went to American Village to look at the lights and watch some performances. All over the outdoor shopping area were different Santa statues. The kids, especially Parker just loved them. He kept talking to them like they really were Santa.

Tonight we read, "The Little Christmas Elf." Then the kids went to bed so we can get rid of these stupid colds before Christmas Day!

Christmas Countdown: Day 19

Today was sunny and beautiful. We were all so happy its Christmas break and no school. After spending the morning at the beach, we came home and did our craft project. Today the kids made Christmas trees with their feet. I painted the bottom of their feet, which of course was hard with them laughing and giggling because it tickled. They turned out so cute!

Tonight's movie was a Veggietales Christmas movie, "A Meaningful Life." The kids really love this movie. For treat the kids just had a few chocolate chips. We read the Veggietales book, "Saint Nicholas" and then talked about it. Today was a great start to Christmas break!

Today was the first day of Christmas break. By 9am the kids were bored and picking fights with each other. They were ready to go do something. We have been meaning to go to Araha beach to play in the sand and on the big pirate ship. Everytime I plan to go, it rains. Not today. It was sunny and warm. So, to the beach we went!

Today was the perfect day to go to the Rollerslide Park. It was warm and sunny. The kids were so excited. Each with a piece of cardboard in hand, the ran up the hill to the top of the slide. After doing down 5 or so times, we walked over to the drop slide. For the first time Cooper and Carson went down. Cooper was terrified and did not want to go again, at all. Carson went down a few times. He loved it! Emma walked to the top and Josh was going to help her over, but she panicked. We all had so much fun!

Christmas Countdown: Day 18

The sun was shining and it was so warm and nice today. We went to the rollerslide park today for our activity. It was so much fun. Parker, Josh and I went grocery shopping while the big three went to Awana's. When we got home we had dinner and watched. "Home Alone 2." This has become this years favorite Christmas movie, so we have watched it a lot. The kids just laugh and laugh during the movie.

For treat I made chocolate dipped marshmallows. A few of the I dipped in crushed candy canes. Those were delicious. It was the easiest treat but oh so yummy! Tonight we read, "Phineas & Ferb The Perfect Christmas Tree." What a fun and busy weekend we had!

Christmas Countdown: Day 17

Today we had a busy morning. For today's activity we went to the park and walked around and played for 2 hours. We also took the kids to the BX so they could pick out some toys for Toys For Tots. They each picked out a present and put them in the box. They were so happy to be helping other kids. Most of the toys collected here in Okinawa will be going up to mainland Japan to the earthquake/tsunami area. After our long park trip, the kids were pretty tired. They watched "Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas." While they watched the movie I wrapped presents, and wrapped some presents, and kept wrapping. Our tree is very full! For treat we had some leftover cookies. Our book tonight was, "Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas." We had a wonderful family day today!

Christmas Countdown: Day 16

Oh Happy Friday! The boys have been looking forward to Christmas Vacation for a long time. Cooper wore pj's to school today for his Christmas movie party. Carson wore his Blazer Santa hat of course. He had a gift exchange, cookie exchange and birthday cupcakes at school. After school we had pizza, something the kids were all looking forward to. For treat everyone got to pick one of the cookies from Carson's cookie exchange. We watched "Christmas Vacation" together and laughed and laughed. The kids decorated some Christmas trees and Josh hung up some more lights. We even managed to sneak in a few Christmas light pictures.

Tonight we read, "The Biggest Christmas Tree Ever." Cooper has a pretty bad cold so he went to bed early. We are all so happy to have the next 2 weeks to sleep in, stay in pj's and NO HOMEWORK!

Cooper's Class Christmas Party

Yesterday we surprised Cooper and showed up for his Gingerbread House Making/Christmas Party at school. He had no idea we were coming. He was so surprised. Josh, Emma, Parker, and I all helped make his house. The kids put so much candy on. Cooper gave Josh the grand tour of his class. He was so happy to have us there and to tell us all about everything hanging on the walls. After making houses all the parents brought in special snacks and treats. We spent an hour with him in his class. He just loved it!

Emma Meets the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders

Yesterday Emma, Parker and I got to meet some of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Anyone that knows me, knows I love cheerleading. Emma was so excited to meet them also. She didn't mind waiting in line for her turn to say hi. When we got up there Emma of course was shy at first. But then she started talking and even did a little cheer, "Go cheerleaders, go cheerleaders." I couldn't have been prouder. Parker hid behind me at first. But then the cheerleaders started talking about his dimples and how cute he was. So, he stepped out in front of me and started smiling and posing for them. He was so funny. They couldn't stop talking about how cute he was. It really was hilarious. They both got autographs from 6 of the cheerleaders.

Christmas Countdown: Day 15

Today was a very busy day. Josh had the day off again, which was so nice. Parker, Emma and I made 10 dozen cookies this morning. Some for Carson's class cookie exchange, some for us and some for Cooper's class party. We had lunch at the BX and then waited in line to meet the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Lets just say Emma loved it and the cheerleaders were so in love with Parker and his dimples. After that we went to Cooper's class and surprised him. We helped make gingerbread houses and then ate some treats with the class. He was so surprised. After school we went to Macaroni Grill for an early dinner. The kids just love eating here. Its something we do after each of Josh's trips. After a busy day it was nice to get home. The kids make crepe paper stars. They had a lot of fun making them.

It was too late to watch a movie. The kids also got ice cream at dinner, so there was no extra treat. Although eating dinner at Macaroni Grill is a pretty awesome treat for us. Tonight Josh read the story, "Room for a Little One." What a fun day!

Christmas Countdown: Day 14

Today Josh had the day off. We ran a few errands and then picked up the boys from school. Parker got his haircut. It's so cute! After homework time we made reindeer paper chains. The kids really thought they were so cool. They had fun drawing faces on their reindeer. We watched, "Olive the other Reindeer". The kids really liked the movie.

For treat we had Reindeer Noses. Really just 8 whoppers and 1 whopper coated in red candy melts, 1 for each reindeer.

Tonight's book was "Olive, the other Reindeer." Its a really cute story and the kids really enjoyed reading it.

During Josh's last TDY in South Korea he had the opportunity to go to the DMZ ( Demilitarized Zone). This is the neutral area between N. Korea and S. Korea. This was a once in a lifetime trip. He learned so much. He said it was just creepy how quiet the area was. Lots of history to learn about. He said it was just crazy to be so close to N. Korea and even see some of their army.

Christmas Countdown: Day 13

Today was so much fun! The best part of the day was that Daddy came home! After dinner we had a big snowball fight with cotton balls! The kids just loved this so much!!! They played and played. Cotton ball snow fights are a fantastic way to spend time together. After that we played cards. I taught Carson and Cooper how to play speed and Josh played go fish with Emma and Parker.

The kids watched "Frosty the Snowman" and tried making snowmen with the cotton balls. Tonight we read "Snowmen at Christmas". We all sat together and tried to find the hidden pictures on each page. Tonight was a such a wonderful family night!

Christmas Countdown: Day 12

Today it was all about Mickey. We watched "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas". The kids colored Mickey Christmas pictures. Below is Parker's coloring page. He is getting so much better at coloring!!

For treat we had Cinnabun Popcorn- air popped popcorn with melted cinnamon chips drizzled over. Not everyone liked it, but I thought it was yummy. It tasted just like a cinnamon roll.

Tonight's book was "Mickey Saves Santa." Of course Emma and Parker really loved the story. We can't wait for Daddy to be home tomorrow so he can join in on our Christmas festivities.

Christmas Countdown: Day 11

Today was an epic fail. Carson woke up not feeling well. So, my plans for the day did not pan out. We watched a few Christmas Veggietales movies. Those are always so cute and have an awesome message. We watched movies the rest of the day, and more movies. I planned on making Nativity scenes with the kids, but that did not happen. Nor did our special treat, cinnamon toast stars. We did open our book and read it by the tree. As you can see, it was an off day. I'm really hoping Carson feels better in the morning!!

My Silly Little Parker and his Puppy

Parker just loves his puppy. He takes him everywhere. He loves to cuddle with him and hug him tight. He plays games with him and has long talks with him. Parker got this puppy before he was even born. It was on top of the diaper cake at my baby shower for him. His puppy is getting a little worn out, but he just loves him to death! And yes, he needs a haircut badly. But I do love it like this. Daddy will be taking him as soon as he gets back this week.

Christmas Countdown: Day 10

Oh happy Saturday! We went to the grocery store early before it got too crowded. We watched "The Santa Claus 2" while we ate lunch. Then we set up our activity for the day. The kids have always loved watching the show "Minute to Win It". I found THIS on pinterest. The website has ton of Christmas minute to win it games. Today we played "jingle in the trunk". We used a belt to hold an empty tissue box filled with jingle bells. The kids each took turns wiggling their booties to get the bells out. It was hilarious! Our second game was "present delivery". They had to carry 3 bags using just their teeth and place them standing on 3 plates. The kids just loved playing these games!

Today's treat was going to be a dressed up hershey bar. But I didn't get around to wrapping them up like reindeer. And no, they did not get to eat the whole thing, just 4 mini squares.

Tonight's book was opened by Emma. She didn't want anymore pictures, so Carson stepped in. We read. "Who Will Guide My Sleigh Tonight." Following story time, the kids discussed all the different kinds of animals that could pull Santa's sleigh and if it would work. They had some pretty cute stories!

Christmas Countdown: Day 9

Today was a special day. The boys begged to have a "hookey" day this morning. They both had substitutes, so why not. A skip day is always nice once in awhile. The kids played Lego's and colored. We watched lots of Christmas movies and "The Smurfs". Today's special movie was "The Santa Claus." I love that movie. The kids all colored their Santa's and we put the movable Santa together. They put on a little play and had so much fun with them.

Parker and Emma helped make North Pole Cupcakes. They turned out so cute. The kids really liked the idea.

Our book tonight was a new one, "How Murray Saved Christmas." It was a pretty funny book, co-authored by one of the writers of the Simpsons. The boys really enjoyed the book, especially the word, "poo" was used. We had a wonderful skip day!

Christmas Countdown: Day 8

Today's activity was so much fun. Each of the kids took turns decorating each other as Christmas trees. They loved it! All 4 had so much fun. They really took their time wrapping each other up in green streamers, adding a star at the top and placing ornaments. After decorating they played in the streamers for the longest time.

After decorating and playing we ate dinner and watched, "Gotta Catch Santa Claus." For treat we had brownies with Christmas sprinkles, so yummy! Carson opened tonight's book, "The Joy of Giving." We talked about the joy of giving presents and then hopped into bed.

Christmas Countdown: Day 7

Today we watched "Santa Buddies". The kids just love all the Buddies movies, especially Parker with his love of dogs. While watching the movie we made Christmas necklaces with beads and a bell.

For treat we had White Chocolate Santa Dogs. I just melted some white chocolate for the heads, used red candy melts for the hat and bow, and melted chocolate for the face. The kids thought they were so cool.

Finally, before bed Cooper opened todays book, "There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell." The kids love this series of books. Another day completed. Christmas is getting closer and closer!

My First Pictures with the New Camera

After waiting very patiently for the battery to charge, I finally got to try my new camera out. It is amazing!!!! These pictures turned out 100x better than I could have imagined. My old cameras would never be able to take this clear and detailed pictures. I shot these all in auto mode. I have a lot to learn but I am so excited!!!

It's a Very Merry Early Christmas for Me!

I have the most amazing parents in the whole world! My Christmas present arrived today and I got to open it while they watched on Facetime. I was so shocked and surprised when I opened the box, a new Canon Rebel T3i!!!!! I have wanted this camera for so many years. I can't believe my parents got this for me. They are so awesome. I can't wait to take the best pictures ever!

Harlem Globetrotters Visit Okinawa

The Harlem Globetrotters visited Kadena AFB this week. Today they had a special Kids University for kids only. The kids got to play with them for about 40 minutes. They loved it! No parents were allowed in the gym, so no pictures. The boys really wanted to stay for the game, something I wasn't planning on doing. So, we got our seats, 2nd row and waited an hour for the game to start. A friend of Cooper's class sat with us. She was so funny. She kept holding Cooper's hand, putting her arm around him and rubbing his back. Carson and Cooper really loved the game. They laughed and laughed. I have never seen Carson laugh that hard. It was magical! We only stayed for the 1st half. We left at 7:15. The boys really wanted to stay to get autographs, but it was just too late and Emma was ready to go. We had so much fun! Although, it was very sad that Daddy missed out. He loves basketball more than anyone. He would have loved to be there with the kids. One more week and he will be home!
